Abstract Data set comprised of four shape files: minor watersheds and three summary files representing primary, secondary and tertiary level watersheds derived from MnDNR Level 08 Catchments. Data can also be classified by Major Watershed. Data set covers the entire seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Purpose To develop a watershed network for the metropolitan area that is primarily topographically based, but also reflects natural boundaries that have changed as a result of urban storm water management.

DOWGAGEID: DNR Gage Ids. Values = Gage IDs.

NID_ID: National Inventory Dam Ids.

MAJOR: Minnesota DNR Major Watershed ID numbers. 1-5, 7-44, 46-63, 65-84.
Note: Majors 6, 45, and 64 do not exist.

MINOR5: Minnesota DNR Minor Watershed ID number. The first
characters of this field are the same as the DNR Major
Watershed ID number.

CATCH_ID: Primary ID field. DNR Catchment IDs, same as HPOI_ID except
it is a string.

DOWLKNUM: Minnesota DNR Division of Waters unique lake and wetland
identification number for basins of Public Waters.

HYDROID: DNR CATCH_ID plus two digits. Created for Arc Hydro integration.

LAKE_AC: Recorded lake acres from Protected Waters dataset.

DOWN_CAT: DNR Catchment(CATCH_IDs) of adjacent downstream receiving
DNR Catchments.

NEXTDOWNID: HYDROID of adjacent downstream receiving DNR Catchments.
Created for Arc Hydro Integration.

UP_COUNT: Total number of adjacent upstream contributing DNR Catchments.

UPADJ_CAT: List of adjacent upstream contributing DNR Catchments.

CATCH_AC: This field contains the spatial extent of individual DNR
Catchment polygons in ACRES as represented by each record.

TOT_SHED_A: Total Acres of all upstream contributing DNR Catchment
polygon(s) to this individual polygon as represented by this
record.

NCONTRB_A: Not Available

PW_AC: Total of all acres of DNR Protected Waters contained within
the DNR Catchment represented by this record.

NWI_AC: Total of all acres of NWI polygons contained within the DNR

HU_10_NAME: A unique name for each 5th level hydrologic unit that
relates to the major water feature within the polygon or the
major water body it contributes to.

HU_10_MOD: Identifies modifications that modify natural overland that
alters the location of the HU boundary for a 10-digit
subwatershed.

HU_10_TYPE: This field identifies the type of watershed.

HU_12_DS: 12-digit code of the 5th level hydrologic unit that is
receiving the majority of the flow from the watershed that
the 6th level HU falls within. Outlets created by ditching
or other artificial drainage were not considered for this
field.

HU_12_NAME: A unique name for each 6th level hydrologic unit that
relates to the major water feature within the polygon or the
major water body it contributes to.

HU_12_MOD: Identifies modifications that modify natural overland that
alters the location of the HU boundary for a 12-digit
subwatershed.

HU_12_TYPE: This field identifies the type of watershed.

HU_10_GNIS: GNIS Feature Identification Numbers for each feature in the
5th level hydrologic unit name separated by a space.

HU_12_GNIS: GNIS Feature Identification Numbers for each feature in the
6th level hydrologic unit name separated by a space.

HPOI_CLASS: Combination of digits representing types of HPOIs.
1 - Basin
2 - Sub-basin (bay)
3 - Dam
4 - Gage
5 - Minnesota DNR Minor Watershed
6 - Minnesota DNR Major Watershed

identification number is derived by adding two trailing
digits to the DNR MINOR5 ID. Same as CATCH_ID, except it
this field is an integer. This is a ley field for Joins.
This field ties the unique ID to the DNR Pour Points.
