Metadata Summary

Originator Metropolitan Council
Abstract This layer contains information on the Regional Park System and most state and federal recreationally oriented land in the metropolitan area. The principal data sources are: park operating agencies and master plans, 2000 Land Use Inventory (Metropolitan Council), 2000-2002 county parcel datasets, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Minnesota DNR.

Two datasets are included:
parks_regional.shp: includes boundaries of parcels where they form subdivisions of parks
parks_regional_Dissolve.shp: derived form the other dataset, this layer dissolves the data to have just one polygon per park and fewer attributes.

Attribute Accuracy
Logical Consistency The dataset is topologically 'clean'.
Completeness Entire seven county geographic area is covered.

Data exclude local and county parks and rec. features.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy The positional accuracy of the dataset has not been tested under the National Standards for Spatial Data Accuracy. The positional accuracy of the dataset is UNKNOWN
Lineage Data Sources: Various: park operating agencies and master plans, 2000 Land Use Inventory (Metropolitan Council), 2000-2002 county parcel files, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Minnesota DNR.

Accuracy: Various: The Regional Parks data evolved over a period of years, beginning with the 'Parks and Recreation' land use classification from the 1990 Land Use Inventory. This file was updated using county parcel information as well as data supplied by the operating agencies, the MnDNR (state-owned land) and the MVNWR (state and federal land in the Minnesota River valley). Boundaries are updated or corrected as new or better information is made available.
