Metadata Summary

Originator Metropolitan Council and The Lawrence Group (TLG)
Abstract The Hi-Frequency Service Network layer consists of all or part of transit route segments with service ever 15 minutes or better on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Hi-Frequency routes consists of parts of routes 5, 6, 10, 18, 19, 21, 64, 84 and all of routes 16, 54 and 55. Transit stops served by Hi-Frequency routes are marked with red signs.

The line work for the dataset was derived from The Lawrence Group's Street Centerline and Address Range dataset. A small number of line segments have been added to those available from the TLG dataset to completely depict all routes traveled by buses.

Attributes include Line_id and direction. Directional values of '0' represent northbound and eastbound. Directional values of '1' represent soutbound and westbound.

Section 2 Data Quality Information Top of full metadata Top of page
Attribute Accuracy Attributes randomly checked by Metropolitan Council GIS staff.
Logical Consistency The dataset is topologically 'clean'.
Completeness Entire seven county geographic area is covered.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Positional accuracy varies throughout the dataset. Most line work in most counties falls within the road right of way, often near the center. Recent realignments by the TLG Street Centerline database have resulted in increased positional accuracy.

Text below taken from TLG metadata:

There are differing degrees of positional accuracy throughout the file. TLG adjusts the positional accuracy of the data to available sources known to have a greater degrees of accuracy then those used to generate the existing data. However, in all cases (including instances where COGO line work has been the reference) TLG generalizes the street segments to at least 4 feet in order to greatly reduce the number of vertices - thus reducing unnecessary file size and allowing for faster analysis.

TLG's goal is to have 95% of roads located to within the approximate center of digital right-of-way data or pavement centerlines provided from counties, where such digital data is available. In other areas, 95% of roads are intended to be within ten meters of the road or right-of-way center.
Lineage To create this dataset, TLG and MetCouncil-defined street centerlines were assigned to specific bus route segments. Checks were performed to insure that the selected street centerlines were contiguous for each segment. Met Council and Metro Transit GIS staff added new streets to fill gaps in the data, complete missing turns, and add busways not included by TLG. Checks were performed to insure the end nodes of these new streets snapped to the end nodes of the TLG street centerlines, thereby creating a contiguous network.
