Metadata Summary

Originator Metropolitan Council
Abstract The planned functional class roads layer contains approximate locations of planned major roads and highways in the Twin Cities seven county metropolitan area.

The specific classifications assigned to the roadways resulted from efforts of the Land Transportation Committee, Transportation Technical Advisory Committee and the Transportation Advisory Board as specified in the transportation planning process, using federal rules and guidelines. The data was approved with Metropolitan Council concurrence in 1993. Additional planned roads have been added from information in community comprehensive plans submitted to the Council since 1993 and in the functional class review for the 2007 Regional Solicitation.

The alignments for these roads are approximate only. They are not intended to show the actual alignment.

Please note that the planned functional class road layer is meant to indicate the classification of planned new roads. Opening of planned functional class roads MAY cause designation changes to the existing functional class network.

Attribute Accuracy Functional classification values were entered and checked by Metropolitan Council GIS staff and double checked by Metropolitan Council transportation planning staff.

Please note that the planned functional class road layer is meant to indicated the classification of planned new roads. Opening of planned functional class roads MAY cause designation changes to the existing functional class network.
Logical Consistency The dataset is topologically 'clean'.
Completeness Entire seven county geographic area is covered.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy The linework in this layer is intended to show a very general location for planned roads on small scale maps. No assessment of the actual positional accuracy of these road alignments has been made. Lines should not be expected to fall within the future road rights-of-way.
Lineage The planned roads were created via heads-up digitizing in ArcView. The source of the lines were approximately 1:50,000 scale markup maps of the existing functional class roads with planned roads drawn in by hand. Where roads were under development in spring 2000, orthophotos may have been used to help align the roads. The resulting features are only approximations of where the future/planned roads would be located. This dataset is intended for visual reference only.

The specific classifications assigned to the roadways resulted from efforts of the Land Transportation Committee, Transportation Technical Advisory Committee and the Transportation Advisory Board as specified in the transportation planning process, using federal rules and guidelines. The final product was approved with Metropolitan Council concurrence.
