Metadata created using Minnesota Geographic Metadata Guidelines
| Originator | Metropolitan Council | |||
| Abstract | This dataset consists of a correspondence table and shape file of the combined 1990 and 2000 Census tracts. Note: Census tracts from 1990 and 2000 do not match in all areas. This dataset is an attempt to match them. Some combining and splitting of tracts was necessary. See the Lineage in Section 2 of the metadata for more information. |

| Lineage | 1990 and 2000 Census tracts were plotted on a map. In order to compare 1990 with 2000 data, the geographic areas need to be the same. A new 'combined' tract number was created using that map. For tracts that did not change between 1990 and 2000, no change was made in their tract number. Where boundaries differed, one of the following prefixes was added, (6) 2 or more 1990 tracts were merged in to 1 2000 tract; (7) only minor differences between 1990 and 2000, no changes made except to note difference; (8) 2 or more 1990 tracts were combined with 2 or more 2000 tracts; or (9) a 1990 tract was split in to 2 or more 2000 tracts. Relating the table to the 2000 Census Tract coverage (TIGER/Line file based) on tract00, a dissolve on the combined item created the combined coverage. In AV 3.2, the coverage was converted to a shape file. |
